Kawasaki announced a new 400cc entry-level sportbike, though it likely won’t be imported to the U.S. The 2011 Kawasaki Ninja 400R has been announced for Canada, slotting into Canadian Kawasaki Motors’ lineup between the Ninja 650R and the Ninja 250R. The all-new 400R is based on the larger 650R, sharing many of its attributes, and at 447.5 lbs. it weighs just two pounds less.

The Ninja 400R is a Kawasaki sport bike announced for the 2011 model year, to be sold in Canada and the UK as a smaller cousin to the Ninja 650R, to which it is closely related. However, it can also be seen as a successor to the earlier Kawasaki GPz400S of the 1980s and Kawasaki EX-4 of the 1990s, both of which were only sold in Japan.
